Agriculture is the backbone of Bangladesh’s economy. Traditional agriculture is transforming into modern agriculture, narrowing the crop yield gap for farmers. This will help the country meet the recommended per capita crop requirements for its ever-increasing population.

Agricultural graduates have been shouldering this great challenge since the establishment of different agricultural universities in Bangladesh. They motivate farmers to practice agriculture with high-yielding crop varieties blended with advanced technologies, also known as good agricultural practices (GAP).

In order to produce more food for future generations, the country needs more and more skilled agricultural human resources. In view of this, Gono Bishwabidyalay with a difference, has opened the Faculty of Agriculture in 2023 to produce quality graduates with updated agricultural education.

The curriculum of the Faculty focuses on theoretical and practical-oriented courses on mechanized crop production, crop protection, variety improvement, technology extension, and crop economy. Agriculturists play a key role in society as academicians, researchers, and extension personnel. They help to push agriculture to new heights even as average farm sizes decrease. This drives the rising economic and social statuses of farmers.

In addition, graduates may come up as entrepreneur for further extended agriculture as commercial agriculture, which is time demanding.

The Faculty offers a four-year degree program along with two months internship for secondary level students with a science background to produce skilled manpower to lead the agricultural development of Bangladesh. This will help to end hunger and poverty, ensure national food security, nutrition security, and agricultural business. This will be the institutional excellence of agriculture!
