Department of Pharmacy, Gono Bishwabidyalay organized a webinar on “Career development and required competencies for Pharmacists” on October 17, 2020. The keynote speaker of the webinar was Md. Mehedi Hasan, National Consultant, Essential Drugs and Medicines, WHO, Bangladesh. He explained the various sectors of the pharmacy profession and the new areas that are being created where pharmacists are contributing to human wellbeing. He mentioned the different roles of pharmacists in health sectors which are very crucial for safe and effective treatment, especially in the hospital setup. Besides, there are many research organizations which can accommodate a large number of graduate pharmacists i.e. CRO, bioequivalence testing laboratory, etc. He clearly discussed how pharmacists should approach their career goals. However, it was evident from his presentation that we have a lack of competent pharmacists. He shared his experience on how quality Pharmacy education, proper training, and the active support of lawmakers can help to get maximum health benefits.
The webinar was started with an introductory speech by the acting Chair, Mst. Rozina Parul. The former Vice-Chancellor and Head of the Department of Pharmacy, Gono Bishwabidyalay Prof. Dr. Mesbahuddin Ahmed presided over the webinar. Faculty members of the Department of pharmacy joined the webinar. The webinar was followed by an interactive question and answer session. A good number of students enjoyed the webinar.
