The Department of Politics and Governance was established in 2004. At present it is one of the largest departments in the Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences at the Gono Bishwabidyalay. Currently about 200 students are enrolled in the undergraduate program every academic year. The Department offers B.S.S. (Honours) and Masters Programs.

As part of academic programs, the Department organizes lecture-discussions and special seminars. In addition to coursework, the students of the Department need to do internship in different public or private institutions. Internship helps students to have experience and practical knowledge in different areas of the discipline. The training offered by the Department often reflects recent research or ongoing subject-matters. There are now 12 teachers working in the Department. The Department continues to maintain a congenial academic atmosphere for encouraging teaching commitment and research activity.

The Department's orientation toward undergraduate and graduate education across all the specialities of the discipline is to provide training that will enable its students to make professional contributions over the long run of their careers. With that in mind, a Four Year Honours Syllabus has been designed and Syllabus of Masters Degree Program has been restructured in giving strengths on some fast-growing fields of Politics & Govemance.
